Before February 9th, it had been over a year since we had heard anything new from Kristen Foreman. Prior to that date, she was coming off of the dual I Don’t Cry in My Cowboy Hat EPs, which stood as the strongest collection of songs the Louisiana native had offered to date, and if streaming numbers are any indications, her fans agreed.
Now looking to pick up where she left off, the now Texas-based singer/songwriter has unveiled “Spicy,” a fiddle-laden tune that proudly flexes her Louisiana roots.
Foreman says while she was encouraged by the success of the I Don’t Cry in My Cowboy Hat series, she was chomping at the bit to have new music to offer leading up to “Spicy.”
“It was very encouraging! Putting out new music is always intimidating because you never know if it will be well received or not so having people support your original stuff is always rewarding,” says Foreman. “I was really excited to finally have something new to put out there! I was definitely overdue for it, so it was fun to come out of the gate with a sassy uptempo.”
With Mardi Gras right around the corner from her release date, Foreman selected “Spicy” as her comeback single to allow her the opportunity to promote the hometown-inspired song around the holiday.
“I felt like ‘Spicy’ was a good choice to come back with after not putting out any new music last year because it’s fun and lighthearted,” says Foreman. “I also wanted to market it around Mardi Gras, so that also was also a major deciding factor.”
Foreman enlisted the help of Ryan Nelson, who is all-too-familiar with the cajun way of life (and served as a duet partner on one of Foreman’s standout songs, “Gentleman“), to shape “Spicy.”
“I have always wanted to release a song that highlights my Louisiana roots, and I chose to write this one with Ryan because his family has some Louisiana ties as well,” says Foreman. “I had the hook ready to go, and then we just played off of the different themes of the cajun culture.”
With a host of new releases on the horizon, Foreman says listeners can expect more new music in the spring as she familiarizes herself with the country music scene in The Lone Star State.
“I have another one on deck called ‘Pedal Steel Me Away.’ It is a traditional country waltz and will definitely make you want to crack open a beer. I’m planning for an April or May release for that one!” says Foreman. “I recently relocated to Texas and will be doing Nashville part time moving forward, so my main plan in 2024 will be dipping my toes in the Texas music scene and playing as many shows as possible!”
