Donice Morace Surprises Listeners with Poignant New Single, “Gathering Memories”

As his fans were still enjoying his newly-minted top 40 single, “Working On Me,” Donice Morace had a surprise up his sleeve to close the year.

In the spirit of giving, Morace surprised his listeners with “Gathering Memories,” perhaps his most poignant release to date, sure to tug at the heartstrings and hit home for lovers of great country music story songs.

We chatted with Morace all about “Gathering Memories,” the success of “Working On Me,” expanding his horizons in 2025 and more!

Pro Country: Your last single, “Working On Me,” just entered the top 40 on the Music Row Chart. How encouraging has it been to see the success the song has had and to see your song among some of the biggest artists in the genre?

DM: I’ve got to tell you, I’m just on cloud nine having a top 40 song on the Music Row chart. It’s a great song; it’s well-written, has a great melody, and a humble/positive message to it. I’m tickled that radio agrees with me.

PC: You surprise-dropped your new single, “Gathering Memories” last week. What did you like about the surprise release strategy?

DM: I think it’s cool every now and then to give fans something they don’t expect, and the holiday season is a perfect time for something like that.

PC: As lovers of story songs, “Gathering Memories” is one of our favorites in your catalog. What are a few of your favorite country music story songs?

DM: I’m a huge fan of Cody Johnson’s “Dirt Cheap,” Ella Langley and Riley Green’s “You Look Like You Love Me,” and for the old school fans, Johnny Paycheck’s “Old Violin.”

PC: With 2024 wrapping down, you’ve released two singles this year and played shows in places you had never played previously. How do you look back on 2024 for your career?

DM: There were a lot of new places and a chance to win over new fans this year. From Colorado and Wisconsin to Pennsylvania and Nashville, we not only made new loyal fans, but created some really strong friendships, and that’s what it’s all about.

PC: What do you have planned going into 2025?

DM: Of course, we plan on coming back to those places we performed in 2024, but have our sights set on some new markets. There’s a ton of radio stations across the country that are playing “Working On Me;” stations that have never played our music. I’d like to support them and thank them by doing live shows around them, so keep your ears open.
