At just 18 years old, Mason Ramsey has already had quite the ride in the music industry. His debut EP, Famous, will turn seven years-old in July. Another EP, Twang, followed nearly a year to the day later. And then, radio silence.
While he was away, the final song on Twang, “Before I Knew It,” went viral on TikTok, which helped fuel a comeback in 2023. And just two months after ringing in 2024, Ramsey was going viral again, this time, with the heartbreaking ballad “Blue Over You.”
After closing the year with the release of his much-anticipated debut album, I’ll See You In My Dreams, Ramsey opened 2025 by giving listeners a taste of his next musical chapter with “Live Lonely,” a fantastic duet with Harper Grace that captures Ramsey’s signature yodel.
We chatted with Ramsey before his set at CMA Fest about his re-emergence, his viral successes, new music and more!

Pro Country: Since making your comeback in 2023 with “Reasons to Come Home,” you’ve been very steady and consistent with new music releases. Over the last two years, why has it been so important to keep a steady stream of releases flowing?
Mason Ramsey: It feels great. I loved getting back into the swing of things. Taking some time off during Covid was great, because it gave me time to think about what I wanted to write about. It gave me a fresh headspace. Coming back with new music, and my debut album last year, was a huge accomplishment.
PC: Prior to and after its release, your early-2024 single, “Blue Over You,” had several massively viral moments on social media and streaming platforms. What was it like to see the life that the song had?
MR: It was awesome! I had success with “Before I Knew It,” and that was one of the main things that got me to come back into music. I was excited to see the fans’ reactions on TikTok to “Blue Over You.” It was so cool.
PC: Lana Del Rey brought you on stage at Fenway Park to sing “Blue Over You” last June. Can you talk about what it was like to perform for her audience at such a historic place with such a respected artist?
MR: That night was so cool. I got chills being up there next to her and singing that song. Lana is so great; she’s a really sweet human being and a great person to hang out with.
PC: You released your debut album, I’ll See You in My Dreams, in September, that’s quite sonically diverse and captures a sound you’ve described as “American Country Soul.” Can you expand on what that means and the sound you want to capture with your music?
MR: That album was a blend of everything. There were a lot of different feels, even things that were almost funk sounding. I was trying, as best I could, to tie it together with itself, and “American Country Soul” was what I came up with.
We’re going in a little bit of a different direction with the new stuff that we’re doing now, but it’s going to be fun, if not better.
PC: You co-wrote all 14 songs on I’ll See You in My Dreams. How much did you value having such a hands-on impact on the album, especially on your debut album?
MR: It was a really big deal for me, and a big accomplishment. I’d always wanted to do an album of my own songs, so it was important to do that and to be such a big part of it.
PC: Your newest single, “Live Lonely,” a duet with Harper Grace, is a song you wrote together with Michael Paynter and Michael DeLorenzis. Can you take us in the room and talk about how the song came together, and how much you enjoyed having Harper sing on the song as well?
MR: I met Harper doing an event in London at the O2 Arena. Then I met her downstairs at the Music City Center in Nashville, and she suggested getting together to write. We wrote with M-Squared, and it was great. We put our feelings down on paper, and went from there.
While we were writing, she made peanut butter and pumpkins cookies too, so it was a great hang [laughs].
PC: Why did you and your team feel that “Live Lonely” was the right song to follow I’ll See You in My Dreams and serve as the start of your next musical chapter?
MR: It’s a good song to tie the album to what’s coming next. We’re doing a switch on some things and trying to do something a little more modern. I felt like that was a great song to do that.
PC: Even at just 18 years-old, you’ve been chugging along in the must industry for several years now. In that time, what do you feel has been your biggest area of growth/the biggest thing you’ve learned along the way?
MR: I’ve learned to always stay humble, grounded and to be very thankful for every moment and every opportunity that comes along the way.
PC: With “Live Lonely” now released into the world, what do you have planned for the rest of 2025?
MR: Gosh, we’re planning on a lot of things. We’re planning on some singles, but potentially, an album, so we’ll see! I’ve got a couple shows coming up in the fall too that will be announced shortly.
