If you listen to any Addison Johnson song for about three seconds, you’ll realize you’re in for an undeniably country as hell ride for its duration. Boasting influences like George Jones and Alan Jackson, that’s to be expected.
However, as a music lover, Johnson’s DNA runs deeper than that, which he has shown on his newest release, “Maybe I’m Lonely Too,” which offered a glimpse into deeper musical influences.
“This song was a lot of fun to write and bring to life in the studio, simply because I was able to tap into some influences I hadn’t before,” says Johnson. “I have such a great love and appreciation for artists like Etta James, Ray Charles, and Sam Cooke; and while it’s most definitely a country song, their fingerprints are certainly on this track.”
After introducing the song on social media in December of 2024, Johnson began integrating it into his live show in early 2025.
“I’ve never had a song like this before, and I began working it into the set at the beginning of the year,” says Johnson. “After seeing the crowd’s reaction, I knew I wanted it to be a single off the album.”
Johnson’s newest effort follows February’s “The Conspiracy Song,” as he builds towards his third album release next year.
“I’m in the process of putting together a new album right now that’ll be ready to go in 2026,” says Johnson. “I feel like it’s a big step forward in both songwriting and style for me, and I’m really excited to see what everyone thinks of the new songs.”
And while he’s excited about his next chapter, he looks back at his last, 2024’s Dangerous Men, very fondly.
“I’m super proud of that project and the organic growth I’ve seen from it over the past year; all over the country and now in Europe as well,” says Johnson. “While I’m very excited about the direction I’m headed, there are songs off that album that will forever be in the set.”
Johnson will have plenty of opportunities to play songs old and new, as he has an ever-busy touring schedule laid out for the rest of 2025, that is, when he’s finished moving into his first home.
“I just recently moved into my first house, so I’ve been unpacking boxes and gearing up for an absolutely slammed rest of the year, touring-wise, with dates all over the country and internationally,” says Johnson. “I’ve still got a couple of surprises to look out for toward the end of this year as we start building up to my third studio album and a big 2026.”
