Shelby Lee Lowe has been on a serious roll since the beginning of 2018. On the three singles under his during that time, the Lewisburg, Tennessee native has amassed nearly 220,000 streams.
Lowe is looking to keep his hot streak going with his newest single, “Cuss the Jukebox,” a song that would be a seemingly perfect fit on Brooks & Dunn’s Brand New Man album.
The new single, released today, had its framework laid several decades ago, and was picked up by Lowe and his producer, Andy Scott Wills to bring it to the finish line.
“Cuss the Jukebox” is a song that my good friend David Payne starting writing in 1982,” says Lowe. “David taught me a lot about country music and playing guitar when I first got started, so I thought it would be awesome to write a song with him. Andy and I helped Dave finish this song, and I think it turned out really cool. It has a lot of traditional honky tonk elements that I love.”
Though his three most recent singles “Lock It Down,” “Love to Live By,” and “All We Need” each featured more contemporary elements than his debut self-titled album in 2016, “Cuss the Jukebox” is undoubtedly country, something Lowe wanted to really tap in to with his new single.
“I love traditional country music, and it wouldn’t hurt my feeling if country radio went back to the 90s,” says Lowe. “I experimented with some more contemporary sounds a few years ago, but I wanted to get back to my roots with this song. I think traditional country music is making a comeback, and all of the music I’ve been working on lately is neo-traditional.”
His newest single is the first taste of the new music that Lowe has been working on, which he previously told Pro Country was some of his favorite music he has recorded.
“I’ve been working on some awesome songs that are unlike anything I’ve ever done before, including a cover song I will release next month,” says Lowe. “It’s traditional country music with some outside influences.”
Lowe says he is looking to have a strong finish to his already successful 2019.
“In 2019 I expect to release a few more songs and I have shows booked all over America,” says Lowe. “I’m filming a video at a couple shows this year. I’m making plans and making things happen! Stay tuned!”
